Lucas Sabean is an award-winning director, producer, and senior video editor with over two decades of experience blending traditional cinematic storytelling with cutting-edge generative AI workflows. His diverse body of work spans hard-hitting political and social documentaries, narrative features, high-profile commercial campaigns, and a prolific portfolio of experimental film.
Known for his ability to distill complex economic, historical, and political narratives into deeply human, emotionally resonant stories, Lucas’s work has been broadcast on networks like PBS, streamed on platforms such as Max, and featured at dozens of top film festivals.
Documentary & Narrative Features
Lucas has served as the creative force behind a long list of critically acclaimed documentaries. As a producer and editor, Lucas shaped the narrative for Healing from Hate: Battle for the Soul of a Nation (2020, Journeyman Pictures), which premiered at DOCNYC and won the SIMA "Ethos" Jury Prize. He also produced and edited The Cure For Hate: Bearing Witness to Auschwitz (2023), a powerful exploration of moral transformation broadcast nationally on PBS / American Public Television. He directed, produced, and edited Devil Put the Coal in the Ground(2022, a Rogovy Foundation grant recipient and winner of 5 Festival Awards for Best Feature), and THE MAN CARD: 50 YEARS OF GENDER, POWER & THE AMERICAN PRESIDENCY (2024, Media Education Foundation/Sedona Film Festival). He also directed, produced, and edited You Throw Like A Girl: The Blindspot of Masculinity (2020, Media Education Foundation/Kanopy) and co-directed and edited Angry White Men: Masculinity in the Age of Trump(2019, Grasshopper Films).
Most recently, through Eat the Moon Films, Lucas directed and edited the feature documentary The Invisible Doctrine: The Secret History of Neoliberalism (2025), which amassed over 200,000 views within its first month of release via Journeyman Pictures. He is currently directing and editing Just Futures, a documentary exploring how AI is reshaping labor, equity, and future economies.

He has served as a premium documentary editor for projects like Hi, I’m Hakki (Max) and The Virus Hunt: India (Courageous Studios for CNN), and has led high-volume post-production workflows for major global brands, including US Steel and Starwood/Marriott. His editorial work also extends to music videos, notably editing the official video for My Morning Jacket’s "Wordless Chorus" (ATO Records).
Lucas’s roots in experimental filmmaking have been celebrated since early in his career. Legendary choreographer Paul Taylor once described his experimental films as "superb—like poems made visible." His historic short film credits include Relievio (2000; Slamdance, Telluride, Seattle, and Chicago International Film Festivals), associate producing the narrative feature Roof to Roof (2001; Sundance Film Festival), and End of Era (2003), which screened at over a dozen international festivals as part of the Underground Zero film program. His 2008 film, The Last Stand, won Best Feature Film by a Local Filmmaker at the Backseat Film Festival.
Lucas holds a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and a Master of Fine Arts in Film Production from Boston University. He is based in Beacon, New York.
